Global Water, Wastewater & Reuse Solutions For the Municipal, Industrial and Commercial Markets

Fluence offers an integrated range of services across the complete water cycle, from early-stage evaluation, through design and delivery, to ongoing support and optimization of water-related assets.

Water Treatment & Desalination

water-cycleFrom large-scale plants to ready-to-use modular, containerized systems, Fluence provides cost-effective desalination solutions for potable water and industrial process water. Our high-recovery systems reduce the need for brine disposal and maximize permeate production in the most cost-effective and environmentally sustainable way possible. Fluence has been actively developing technical solutions for brine concentration, with the aim of minimizing discharge costs and environmental footprint. We offer a variety of brine-reduction technologies selected to suit client needs and limitations, including high-recovery reverse osmosis, evaporation ponds, thermal brine concentration, and zero liquid discharge.

Our NIROBOX™ product line features modular desalination facilities installed in standard 40-foot shipping containers. The self-contained units are plug-and-play, easy to deploy, and more cost-effective than conventional plants. Larger plant capacity can be achieved by combining containers.

Nirobox can be used for seawater and brackish water desalination, removing contaminants from fresh water, and for the production of drinking, process, and ultrapure water. The plants can be up and running in less than four months from receipt of the purchase order.

Decentralized Wastewater Treatment

By definition, decentralized systems convey, treat, reuse, or dispose of water or wastewater close to the supply point or source of generation. Decentralized water or wastewater treatment can be an ideal solution for a variety of public or private buildings or sites. It makes sense to choose a decentralized solution when there are limited alternatives, for instance, in remote areas; and when the cost of building delivery infrastructure to a centralized facility is higher than building a decentralized facility with a local network. Decentralized solutions also mean easier permitting, faster implementation, and reduced operating costs.

For municipal wastewater treatment, our membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) product line is particularly suited to decentralized settings. Our products are pre-engineered and preassembled, and can be up and running in record time.

Our innovative MABR technology integrates a natural nitrification-denitrification process and passive aeration, which uses up to 90% less power than conventional aeration technology. MABR treatment produces effluent suitable for environmental discharge or irrigation.

We can also deploy our highly successful Tipton plants, which are proven and robust extended aeration packaged plants for municipal, commercial, and industrial applications. Fluence has dozens of reference sites using Tipton wastewater plants.

Decentralized Wastewater Treatment for Reuse

The Fluence ECOBOX™ is a tertiary treatment suite housed in a 40-foot shipping container. It includes pretreatment, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, advanced oxidation, and disinfection. Our Ecobox product takes secondary effluents and produces process water or ultrapure water for industrial use and commercial use such as gray water, irrigation, and toilet flushing.

Our plants are fully automated and are controlled by our innovative Smart Operation suite, which features real-time monitoring and response, as well as optimization of operating costs.

Wastewater Solutions

At Fluence, our latest anaerobic digestion innovation has focused on anaerobic MBR, a combination of anaerobic digestion and membrane bioreactor technology, which concentrates solid digestate without the use of centrifuges or dissolved air flotation (DAF). This new application:

  • Can process a higher organic load than traditional technologies
  • Reduces the volume required for digesters
  • Provides better quality effluents
  • Uses less polyelectrolyte
  • Can be used to upgrade existing facilities

Fluence has decades of experience in the delivery of cost-effective, reliable, state-of-the-art aeration and mixing solutions. Our line of aerators and mixers is one of the most comprehensive in the industry. Our SMARTAERATOR™ system is a highly innovative control system for new or existing aerators. It’s easy to implement, efficient, and cost-effective, reducing power consumption significantly.

Waste-to-Energy

Our waste-to-energy technologies fall into three main categories:

  • Anaerobic treatment of wastewater containing a high concentration of soluble COD, including wastewater from breweries, paper mills, dairies, food processing plants, and pharmaceutical companies
  • Anaerobic digestion of sludge, particularly from slaughterhouses, fish processing plants, and rendering plants
  • Anaerobic digestion of solid waste, including biomass, food waste, manure, agricultural waste, and silage

The main benefits of using our waste-to-energy solutions to process wastewater and sludge include:

  • On-site production of energy, which can be used by the client to reduce a plant’s electricity and gas consumption
  • Production of high-quality, treated effluents that meet the most stringent permitting requirements
  • Reduction of sludge volume by up to 90%, significantly reducing the amount bound for landfills
  • Production of a high-quality digestate that can be used by farmers as a fertilizer
  • Reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions
  • 100% reliability, and low operation and maintenance requirements
